Edutainment 2017 proceedings

The Springer proceedings for the recent Edutainment 2017 conference we held here at Bournemouth University earlier this summer are now released. I am one of the editors for this.

Article in Springer's Transactions on Computational Science

An extended version of the recent Cyberworlds conference article from September (for which I blogged about this earlier in the year) I am one of the co-authors on has now been accepted for Springer's Transactions on Computational Science (after an additional reviewing process).


I will blog again once this is published; the article is titled OpenGL|D - An Alternative Approach to Multi-user Architecture.

SIGGRAPH 17 poster online

The SIGGRAPH poster I am the co-author on; which I referred to in a prior blog post, is now online at the ACM Digital Library (the conference itself is currently ongoing at the time of writing this).

Edutainment 2017 award

Delighted to say that our publication at the recent Edutainment 2017 international conference, "An Investigation into Usability and First Time User Experiences within a Mobile Gaming Context" won the best short paper award.


This was a great result indeed; and the conference itself which we hosted here at Bournemouth University was also very productive and enjoyable.

IFESS 2017 abstract accepted

An abstract, which will be presented as a poster, titled "Combining Functional Electrical Stimulation with Interactive Games to Improve Upper Limb Function in People with Chronic Stroke" (for which I am the co-author for) has now been accepted for the IFESS 2017 conference (which stands for International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society).

Edutainment 2017 short paper accepted

A short paper I am the co-author on has been accepted for publication for the Edutainment 2017 conference taking place here at Bournemouth University this summer.


This short paper is titled "An Investigation into Usability and First Time User Experiences within a Mobile Gaming Context". The conference's website can be found here.

SIGGRAPH 2017 poster accepted

A poster paper I am the co-author on has been accepted for SIGGRAPH 2017 which takes place this summer in Los Angeles, USA.


The poster paper is titled "Procedural Feature Generation for Volumetric Terrains". More on the SIGGRAPH event itself here on the official website of this seminal conference.

SCRIPTed journal article now published

A journal article I am the co-author on has just been published on the SCRIPTed journal, titled "Human Aspects of Digital Rights Management: the Perspective of Content Developers".

TIGA's education report from November

With the last blog post being on the TIGA awards event I thought I would also include another, very separate, piece of recent news from them. 

TIGA, as the UK games development trade association body, released a report on games dev related education in the country last month which I was too, amongst other people in the sector, interviewed for, providing some quotes and insights.

British HCI 2016 poster publication

I am the co-author on a poster soon to be presented at the upcoming British HCI 2016 conference, which takes place here at Bournemouth University between the 11th and the 15th of July. 

The poster publication is titled "Design of a Videogame to Explore Morality".

RATE publication

Recently a publication I am the co-author on was published on the SAGE Journal of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Engineering. The paper is titled "The use and effect of video game design theory in the creation of game-based systems for upper limb stroke rehabilitation".

HAISA conference paper

I was the co-author for a recent conference paper at HAISA 2015 (Ninth International Symposium on the Human Aspects of Information Security and Assurance), titled "Digital Rights Management: The Four Perspectives of Developers, Distributors, Users, and Lawyers".


The conference programme can be found here, the conference took place in Lesvos, Greece in July.

Edge magazine article

Edge magazine recently had in its annual Get Into Games supplement an interview with me about the Bournemouth University games courses.

Guest editor for IGI IJGBL special issue

A special issue I am the guest editor for (with five selected articles deriving from VS Games 2013 that I was the general chair for, significantly extended and enhanced) is now published in the IGI International Journal of Game Based Learning.

It is Issue 4, Volume 4 of the journal and published in December 2014.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2014 poster paper accepted for publication

A poster paper I am included as a co-author in has now been accepted for publication at SIGGRAPH Asia 2014. The poster paper is titled "Object Weathering Simulation Avoiding Texture Space Stretching and Discontinuities".

The event this year takes place in early December in Shenzhen, China.

Springer book chapter publication

A Springer book chapter publication I co-authored is now available, as is the book containing it, "Virtual, Augmented Reality and Serious Games for Healthcare 1". This has the chapter I have worked on with another two Bournemouth University colleagues titled "A State of the Art Survey in the Use of Video Games for Upper Limb Stroke Rehabilitation".
